Nun's Island distillery and Miniature

Nun's Island Distillery was located in Galway on the west coast of Ireland. It had three large pots stills and produced Pure Irish Pot Still Whiskey. It operated from about 1846 to, at the latest, 1915 when it closed permanently. Much of the building still survives as part of the local university. This miniature is still over 50% full and it contains 7 year old Galway whisky distilled in the Nun's Island distillery. No strength is given. It was bottled by the owners, A. S. Persse Ltd and, as shown on the neck label, it was supplied to the HOUSE of COMMONS. Given the closure of the distillery in 1915, the 7 yo statement and the creation of the Irish Free State in 1922 after which an Irish whisky would not have been supplied to the British House of Commons, the miniature must have been bottled in 1922 at the latest but it is probably older. A version of this miniature containing 10yo whiskey is also known to exist.

THIS IS A VERY RARE EXAMPLE OF A WHISKY FROM A LONG LOST IRISH DISTILLERY.
